Copywriting is one of the most important aspects of any content.
Without excellent copy, your blog, website, ad, social post or book will not attract readers, engage consumers or convert prospects.
I've always been fascinated by fantastic copy!
So many times, I have been driving home from work, stuck in traffic, staring at billboards.
I think the best billboards are simple in design but have excellent copy, emphasising a singular point.
These are the types of ads that have always attracted my attention. Short and sweet and straight to the point. Appealing to my emotion.
But what makes excellent copy?
I've been lucky enough to speak, work with or learn from some fantastic copywriters. In this article, I'll share some of their top tips to help you write great copy.
What Makes a Good Copywriter?
Before we go any further, let's look at 3 things that make a good copywriter.
By remembering the following 3 points every time you start writing, you'll be one step closer to creating compelling copy that gets results.
1) Understanding the target audience
First and foremost, a good copywriter must understand the target audience. They must be able to see the customer in their mind and write copy that resonates with them.
Suppose the writer doesn't understand what the audience is looking for, interested in or needs help with. In that case, there is no point in going any further.
Remember, you are writing copy for them and not yourself! This is a crucial consideration for compelling copy.
2) Good problem solver
Second, a good copywriter must be able to see the potential problems with a potential customer's situation and come up with solutions.
What does the audience already know? Or what do they not know?
What are they searching for? or what do they care about?
What do they need help with? And how can you help them?
Take the angle of solving problems, and you'll see a massive difference in conversion rates.
3) Be able to see the big picture
Finally, a good copywriter must be able to see the big picture and make sure everything is cohesive.
Brand consistency is often an overlooked aspect of copywriting. Keeping your brand language consistent and making all your copy for a campaign sound like one big story will build massive interest in your brand.
Example: Klarna told us that Millennials are useless with money
Bold text on a bright pink background.
Klarna's stereotype-breaking ad that focuses on perception changing is an excellent example of outstanding copywriting that focuses on building trust and rapport with a target audience.
Millennials get a lot of stick these days for being careless and wasteful with their money. Well, Klarna says different. They used the ad to deliver factual messaging that millennials are actually saving more money than older generations.
Klarna says the goal of this campaign was to challenge social stereotypes like 'millennials are irresponsible' and 'pink is for girls'.
I feel the campaign did a great job highlighting changing consumer preferences and advancements in modern society.

Why is Copywriting Important?
The best copywriting motivates readers to respond with thoughts, words, or actions. If they are not motivated to act or at least consider taking action, the copy was unsuccessful.
Copywriting is essential because it helps people understand and buy products and services. When someone reads or hears your message, they can form an opinion about what you're selling.
If your copy sounds like it was written by a salesman, then buyers may be turned off.
Instead, write with clarity and authority to convince the reader to take action.
Copywriting is also vital for gaining online traffic. People will visit your website or landing page if they believe you're worth their time.
Copywriting is an essential skill for any marketer. You can improve your copywriting skills and create compelling marketing content with the proper guidance and instruction.
